MEET THE MAKERS - THE ZULU COLLECTION

This collaboration is oozing in character and colour. With both design houses sharing an interest in art, sculpture and ceramics there is an underlying energy bursting with personality and originality. The aim was to create an eye-catching collection of individual, hand-crafted table lamps, influenced by Africa, that will make an iconic impression in any interiors space.

Rosemary Wain studied at Kingston Art College and after many years working as an interior designer she had a burning desire to get her hands dirty once again and so she returned to sculpting, designing and painting through the birth of her design studio Kinkatou Studio. Everything is handmade making every creation an original work of art. The clay is sourced from Staffordshire, Devon and Cornwall.

At this years Decorex 2021 Kinkatou Studio was awarded not one, but two, awards. ‘Best New Exhibitor at Decorex’ and The Design Buzz Award for ‘Exceptional Craftsmanship’. Go Kinkatou Studio… what a great acknowledgement.

Stylist Paula Goodburn was born in South Africa and now lives in West Sussex. A lifetime of travel and adventure has inspired her bold and imaginative approach to interiors. Her passion for art and sculpture is abundant. With a keen eye for decorative detail and passionate knowledge for African heritage the desire to tell a story through creating beautiful pieces has been Paula’s strength in this collaboration. These lamps would be naked without their shades. Here in the Porcupine Rocks Studio Paula & Suze (her partner in crime!) married especially selected fabrics from the Porcupine Rocks studio to complete the narrative of each lamp.

Suze has worked closely with Maja from The Bespoke Boutique to create these individually shaped shades, ensuring they look fabulous both with the lights on and off.

Artisans of handmade bespoke lighting, The Bespoke Boutique specialise in both traditional and contemporary production techniques. The team is passionate about creating beautiful lighting from classic or vintage designs to those with a contemporary twist.
